Olena Korneevets | Animal Rights Activist

Olena Korneevets states Animal rights activists can be individuals, volunteers, organizations, or paid employees of organizations. Activists are working to ensure that animals are properly cared for, treated and respected, and to raise public awareness of animal exploitation and abuse.

Animal rights activists do not believe that animals should be used for work and do not believe that breeding or exhibiting animals in zoos or nature reserves are a form of exploitation. They also do not believe that animals of any kind should ever be used in research, at sporting events, in entertainment facilities, or as food.

Animal rights activists borrowed and used direct action tactics popularized by other movements to oppose laboratory testing on animals, fur-wearing, factory farming, animal rearing, and the killing of veal. Seventy-five percent of animal rights activists are women, so it is not surprising that they bore the language and teachings of the civil rights and women's liberation movements. The philosophy of these movements once again drew attention to human rights and the extension of the principles of human rights to analogies with animals, which proved to be easier than many had expected.
